7 Things You May Not Know About Me

My new friend and colleague Susi Schuele from My Virtual Blog tagged me in her blog and asked for me to write “7 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me”. I love this aspect of Social Media Networking, the opportunity to connect and develop relationships with people from all over the world. So since the best ways to develop relationships is to be transparent about yourself here I go.

1. The first and most important thing about me is I am a committed follower of Jesus Christ. My prayer everyday is for the things I say and do to glorify Him. I was always the person who had life under control. I prided myself on being self sufficient so it was a huge surprise to me when 10 years ago during a crisis, I discovered, I was not the one who was in control. Whew, that was a tough one but now I can honestly say I am thankful for the crisis that drove to His arms.

2. I have been married to my soul mate and best friend, Lester for 32 years. That 32 year part is amazing in its own right since the only other people I know who have been married as long are my parents. They have been married 54 years. But the unbelievable part is; we met one night and got married the next day. Yup you read it right me, miss control freak, on a whim drove from Tallahassee, FL to Bainbridge, GA and married a guy I had just met the night before. That was legal in GA then. So here we are 32 years and 2 children later way more hopelessly in love than the day we met.

3Another passion in my life is my horses. I trained and showed Combined Training Event horses for 25 years but an accident ended my jumping career about 10 years ago. I then switched to gaited horses because they are so smooth to ride. I have a Rocky Mountain Horse named Mack along with a Spotted TN Walking Horse, Belle and an orphaned Arabian pasture ornament, named Cameo.  I now focus on Parelli Natural Horsemanship and trick training. I also have a miniature donkey named Bullet who loves to do tricks

4. My husband and I owned and drove a Semi Tractor Trailer Truck together for over 5 years. I loved it! It was a great way to see the country and I have been to all the lower 48 states several times. My parents were appalled that their college graduate daughter drove a truck but I had a blast.

5.I love to camp in the mountains and ride my horse. Several times a year my friends and I head off to horse friendly campgrounds to ride and hangout. We love to go to the Smoky Mts in TN but my favorite trip was to the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. This was a childhood dream so several years ago we drove from TN to Wyoming and went on an organized one week trail ride. The scenery was breathtaking and the food was scrumptious. Riding at 12,000 feet was exhilarating and exhausting but I had a blast. The sky is definitely bigger out there and it remains one of the most spectacular memories of my life.

6. This is what I describe as a fru fru hobby so I don’t often admit it but I make 1 inch scale miniature flowers out of paper, glue, paint and some wire. I started about five years ago when my mom got a miniature dollhouse and started buying furniture and nick knacks at miniature shows. She also had a terrace outside her house and I was looking for miniature plants to give her as a gift.  I saw some arrangements I liked but they were expensive so I decided to take a class and make them myself and I really enjoyed it. It’s a good winter project when it’s yucky and cold outside. I start with plain sheets of thin paper and paint the paper and then mold it into the shapes of petals and leaves. Then I glue them together to make each flower. Finally I arrange all the different flowers together into a pleasing arrangement. I entered a miniature art show with several arrangements and was thrilled to win a third place.

7. I have found my calling in Social Media Networking. I have always been turned off by traditional marketing tactic. I love the ability to connect and create relationships with people from all over the world. Now you can truely find people to do business with who have the same core values you  have. There is the oppertunity to learn so much more.

Ok that was fun and I am now going to tag two more new friends, Kathleen Sullivan and Heike Miller. It will be neat to find out some more about how you spend your time when you are offline. I hope you don’t mind. Lauren

7 Things You May Not Know About Me (Heike Miller)

Thanks for the great fun idea, Lauren.

    1. I got married in March 2008, so my husband and I are having our first anniversary in two month’s time.

    2. I’m a native German speaker. I immigrated to New Zealand about 13 years ago and enjoy living here. I don’t intent to go back to Germany as I prefer the relaxed, laid back New Zealand lifestyle.

    3. I used to be a riding pony breeder and imported a German mare and a colt to New Zealand. The colt is now a licenced breeding stallion and has many successful offspring. I stood the stallion at stud for seven years, but sold him to a friend of mine as I’m concentrating on my VA business now. The stud work was very time consuming and involved. I enjoyed having the stud and raising foals and seeing the babies succeed, but now I simply don’t have the time for this anymore. The stallion’s website is: http://www.davidoff.co.nz.

    4. We live on a small holding with the stallion’s old mum, Mona (26 years old), and a younger thoroughbred for my husband’s daughter.

    5. We have two gorgeous one year old dogs, one cute boxer and a lovely German shepherd. They are very cheeky. The boxer steals everything and gives it to the shepherd who in turn chews it all up. Many pairs of shoes have been mauled to distruction.

    6. I’m addicted to studying and training. I’m a very enthusiastic mature student, have finished a graduate diploma in PR, a postgraduate diploma in communication and am currently doing the last paper in a postgraduate diploma in management. I’ve also done several VA courses and find it hard to say no to new courses. ;)

I too am a committed Christian who has discovered that I cannot fulfill my calling by throwing away my business knowledge. I am learning to use it everyday to glorify God. I thought #6 was funny. I too am addicted to studying and training. Thanks for the wonderful work you are doing.

Thanks for your reply. Sometimes, as Christians, we feel isolated in business and there is really no reason for it. There is nothing un-biblical about making money or being successful. Actually the opposite is the case. So much of Gods work, on the mission field and during times of disaster,is financed by committed, successful Christians who are not ashamed of their faith.
