Social media Marketing Using Facebook Fan Pages

Originally Facebook was intended as a tool for building relationships across the globe but with web 2.0 and the advent of Social Media Marketing many savvy internet marketers realized the potential of relationship based marketing and more and more online businesses have begun to use Facebook as a marketing tool.

As this marketing has become more prevalent there have been lots more cases of the dreaded “Facebook slap” or the ban from Facebook for excessive marketing messages. The developers want to remain true to their original intent for a social networking site but they also realize the potential Facebook holds as a marketing platform and they know it is too huge a market to ignore.

Their answer to the problem came with the latest Facebook redesign when they took the underused Facebook Fan pages and renamed those Facebook Public Profile Pages. They reintroduced them to the Facebook community and they are a perfect solution for everyone who wants to use Facebook as a Social Media Marketing platform.

Here are just 5 of the top reasons you need to get your own Facebook Fan Page no matter what kind of business you have. They are perfect for individuals, small businesses or large corporations, even non profits.

1.     Google will index your Page and share it with all their users which will help your SEO. This is huge! Every piece of new content you add to your page has the possibility to go viral!

2.     Your Facebook Public Profile Page is visible to everyone online even those who are not logged into Facebook, so you can add links  on your websites and blogs and when your prospects click on them they will go right to the page without needing to log in.

3.     You can have an unlimited number of fans to your Public Profile Page while your regular profile page can only have up to 5,000 friends.

4.     You can send Updates to all your fans at the same time while regular profile users cannot message all their friends at once.

5.     Finally, you can have an unlimited number of Public Profile Pages so you could have one for your business or one for a product or one for a book you wrote or….the list is endless.

Sadly, Facebook still needs to do some work to make the pages easier to create and find but hopefully that will happen with the next update. Here are the 3 ways to create a page of your own.

1.     Go to any Public Profile Page and scroll down to the bottom and right above the share link on the left you will see in tiny blue letters create a page.

2.     From your regular profile page it is not so easy. Scroll down to the bottom sort of in the middle and click on advertising then on the next page click on the orange flag that says pages at the top. Then create a page from there.

3.     The easiest way is to use this link www.facebook.com/pages/create.php.

I hope this helps to get you started. In my next post I will explain the steps for actually creating your page and how to add content. In the meantime please visit my Public Profile Page and become a fan at http://companies.to/yoursocialmediamarketingva
