I read this blog today and it reinforces what I am teaching all my clients about the power of the Social Media platform. Sarah Palin took a lesson from President Barak Obama and how he used Twitter and Facebook for his election to the presidency. This is important whether you are a Republican, Democrat or an Independent. The power crosses all political lines and evens the playing field for everyone.

What Sarah Palin Teaches Us About Social Media – Digital Life Blog – InformationWeek.
Sarah Palin’s abrupt resignation on Friday wasn’t a surprise to anyone who follows her on Twitter or Facebook, and that’s all the former vice-presidential candiate really cares about.
Palin had Tweeted her supporters hours before her press conference:
We’ll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election… this is in Alaska’s best interest, my family’s happy… it is good, stay tuned.
The Author, Michael Hickens outlined 5 things we can learn about using Social Media from this event.
- Social media allows you to give a frame of reference to your actions
- Dont be afaraid of giving everyone access to your pages. The supporters will outweight your detractors
- keep it confersational rather that edited
- Keep it personal instead of like a carefully crafted press relaese. Your fans want authenticity
- You can use Social Media to bypass the mainstream media especially if that media is biased against you.
We are just now begining to see the incredible power availlable with Social Media Platforms to those that choose to use it. The most exciting part of this revolution to me is that ordinary people who are willing to spend some time and who are willing to join the conversation, can now be heard.
Something to keep in mind though, if you are silent on an issue it may actually mean you are now agreeing with what is said. Hmmm…
